Pediatric Plaque Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the skin, nails and joints.
1- Pediatric Plaque Psoriasis affects about 3.5% to 8% of the global population.
2- It is a chronic relapsing condition affecting the quality of life and impacts social development.

Stages:

According to the extent of involvement, the disease may be mild, moderate or severe.

Mild = <3 % of the body is involved

Moderate =3 to 10% of the body is involved

Severe = >10% of the body is involved

Diagnosis:

The diagnosis is based on the clinical manifestations. An itchy, painful, reddish rash is seen. In infants, a rash around the diaper area is common whereas in older children, scaly and itchy patches are found more commonly on the scalp.

It is associated with other conditions such as diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension etc. making early diagnosis important.3
